Your birth details stay in this page

The Kundli needs three things: the birth date, the exact local birth time and the birthplace. The place list is built into the site (Indian cities from GeoNames plus major world cities), so choosing one contacts no location service, and the local time is read with that place’s own time-zone rules, daylight saving included.

The calculation runs in your browser. The details are not sent to Cosmic Quest, not stored, not added to the page address and never added to analytics; reloading the page clears them. See the privacy policy for the website and the app.

How to read a Kundli

Lagna — the rising sign

The Lagna is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the birth moment and place. Because the whole zodiac rises in about a day, each sign rises in roughly two hours, so the birth time matters: a few minutes can change the Lagna near a boundary, and with it every house.

Grahas — the nine

Jyotish uses nine grahas: the Sun (Surya), Moon (Chandra), Mars (Mangala), Mercury (Budha), Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), Saturn (Shani) and the two lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu. Seven are bodies whose positions are measured; the nodes are geometric points. A graha can be retrograde (apparently moving backwards).

Bhavas — the twelve houses

Houses divide the chart into twelve areas of life in the tradition. The 3D Kundli uses Whole Sign houses: the Lagna’s sign is the first house, the next sign the second, and so on. The compare panel lets you switch to equal houses measured from the exact Lagna degree to see what changes.

Rashis and nakshatras

Each graha sits in one of twelve signs (rashis) and one of 27 nakshatras. The Moon’s nakshatra at birth starts the Vimshottari dasha sequence.

Sidereal, not tropical

Western astrology measures signs from the equinox (tropical); Jyotish measures them from the stars (sidereal). The difference, the ayanamsha, is 24°14′ at the example moment below. It is large enough to move most placements into the previous sign: in the example, switching to tropical changes the sign of 6 of the ten placements and moves the Lagna to Capricorn.

Nine layers

The 3D view separates the chart into registers that share one centre:

  1. Weighted base
  2. Reference frame
  3. Houses
  4. Cardinal axes
  5. Twelve-sign register
  6. Nakshatra register
  7. Graha placements
  8. Aspect geometry
  9. Timing register

Open them by group — structure, placements, relationships — or one at a time. Aspects use full-sign drishti: every graha aspects the seventh sign from itself, Mars also the fourth and eighth, Jupiter the fifth and ninth, Saturn the third and tenth; the nodes are left out because traditions disagree about them.

Example: the sky over Bengaluru at noon on 20 October 2026

This table is a moment, not anyone’s birth chart: Bengaluru, 12:00 Asia/Kolkata on 20 October 2026. It shows what the 3D Kundli calculates for any input. The Lagna is Dhanu (Sagittarius); on that day in Bengaluru it rose at 10:22 and gave way to the next sign at 12:29, 2 h 07 min later.

What the website Kundli is — and is not

  • It calculates positions, signs, houses, nakshatras and aspects and explains each layer. It does not interpret them or make predictions.
  • Settings are fixed for comparability: sidereal Lahiri (linear model), Whole Sign houses, the mean lunar node. The Android app offers many more settings, divisional charts and saved profiles.
  • Positions are good to a few arcseconds; near a sign or nakshatra boundary another ayanamsha or node setting can move a placement.
  • Accurate astronomy does not, by itself, validate an astrological interpretation.
